Carbon Trading
What is it... and what it means for Northeast agriculture

What’s your operation’s “carbon profile?”

Do you know how to “trade” in greenhouse gases? Or how many “credits” you might have?

If you are unsure of how to respond, then read on, because this article provides a basic course in carbon trading, an emerging commodities trend that may very well affect any enterprise that releases water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane or nitrous oxide into the earth’s atmosphere.

(In addition, the article also features two sidebars which provide snapshots of Northeast dairy farm practices. Both farmers are well on their way to understanding carbon trading. One is already trading and the other is on the road to qualifying his methane digester for the sale of carbon credits.)
